In the Gillian Flynn novel-turned-movie Gone Girl director David Fincher explains why he chose Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as the lead roles in the new thriller is set to hit theaters Oct. 3.

Ben Affleck plays Nick Dunne, a husband accused by his community and media of killing his wife, a mystery that unfolds during the film. Rosamunk Pike plays Nick's wife Amy Elliott, the missing spouse. Other cast members include: Neil Patrick Harris as Desi Collings, an ex of Amy, and Tyler Perry, playing the smooth talking Tanner Bolt, Nick's much-needed lawyer.

Readers of the book are well aware of the rollercoaster ride the film will offer moviegoers.

Affleck's character is a well-kept, handsome writer, who recently lost his job to the downturn of the economy. Amy lost her writing job as well. However, during the media circus that comes with his missing wife, Affleck had to depict a hungover, emotional husband. Think of Scott Peterson. "Just because it's perfect casting doesn't mean you shouldn't do it," revealed Fincher. He was referring to Affleck's own run-ins with the paparazzi during his bachelor days.

Although Affleck admits that he would work with Fincher in any movie, even admitting that he watches his movie Seven all the time. "It was great to work with David and I learned a great deal from him," he has said.

Casting Rosamund as Amy was an interesting case, because while seeing her act in movies over the past 10 years, Fincher could never get a read on her. "I never got a sense of who she was. And I pride myself on being able to watch actors and sort of know instinctively what their utility belt is, and I don't have that with Rosamund. I didn't know what she was building off of. There was an opacity there and it was interesting."
