‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Nina Dobrev Shares What Life Is Like Without The Salvatore Brothers In Season Six

Even though Nina Dobrev's character lost the love of her life, Damon Salvatore, last season on The Vampire Diaries, she is ready to move on in season six. The actress, who plays Elena on the hit CW show, shares some secrets about the new season and it is clear this season will be a good one.

"She misses both [Bonnie and Damon] and is incredibly heartbroken and lost without them, but it's so much for her to handle that she can't allow herself to let all those feelings overwhelm her," Nina explained to TV Guide.

In order to overcome the sadness deep within her, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that they took a "happy" approach to Elena in the beginning of the season. Trying to move on, however, won't be as happy. "When we were starting this season, I was like, this is going to be such a downer. How can we reinvigorate the show without it being so heavy? So this was our solution — to have Elena being in this happy, alternate reality," Caroline revealed to the publication.

This season Elena will have to find her way without a Salvatore man by her side. Fear not Stelena or Delena fans, Elena isn't giving up on love and we can't wait to see who she ends up with. "Elena's emotions are all over the place in season 6 and I have it on good authority that her love life is going to be far from dormant. In fact, I hear she'll be locking lips with a handsome fella in episode 3 — and his name does not rhyme with Shmamon," TV Line reported.

Without the Salvatores, Elena will have to stand on her own two feet, which will be interesting and very different for her, but Nina couldn't be happier with her character's new storyline.

"I'm excited to see her start this new life in college and see how she copes without the Salvatores and how long that lasts and if it makes her realize that being away from them is good or bad," Nina told TV Guide. "It's interesting to see her become her own independent person."

Season six of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, October 2.
