Disney XD announced Friday that they are making the summer blockbuster hit Guardians of the Galaxy into a television series.

The company ordered an animated Marvel's series during their "Marvel Universe" block, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Like the movie the television series will center around Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt in the movie) and his crew, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax the Destoyer.

The movie not only starred Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt but also some pretty serious A-listers such as Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista and now pregnant-with-twins Zoe Saldana.

"The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each week," said Marc Buhaj, senior vp programming and general manager at Disney XD.

The film was the top theatrical movie of the year, bringing in $654 million worldwide. There is already a sequel in the works to be released on July 28, 2017.

Disney XD is fairly new, launching in February 2009 with the show Phineas and Ferb. In 2012 the company launched a block called Marvel Universe as a result of Disney's 2009 purchase of Marvel Entertainment.

"This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series," said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television. "After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew — now they'll get it."
