‘Astronaut Wives Club’ Casting News: ‘Hart Of Dixie’ Star Wilson Bethel Joins Cast

ABC's upcoming show The Astronaut Wives Club has landed another series regular. Hart of Dixie star Wilson Bethel will join the new show's cast, Deadline has learned.

According to Deadline, Wilson will be playing Scott Carpenter, the laid-back husband and astronaut married to Rene Carpenter, played by Yvonne Strahovski. Wilson is best know for his role as Wade Kinsella in the CW hit Hart of Dixie, which is filming its fourth season, which will air in 2015.

The Astronaut Wives Club is based on the novel Astronaut Wives Club written by Lily Koppel in 2013. The story is based on the real lives of the women who supported some of the biggest heroes in American history during the space race. According to Deadline, the show was originally planned for a July 2014 premiere, but was pushed back to a midseason 2014-15 launch.

The show is the latest project from Fake Empire Groundswell Productions and ABC Studios.

"The book profiles dozens of the wives of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts. Originally, the series was envisioned to cover only the wives of the astronauts from the Mercury missions. Now ABC is expanding the scope to also include the Gemini and Apollo missions," Deadline revealed.

The ABC series will be made up of 10 episodes in the first season. It will star Chuck alumna Yvonne Strahovski as Rene, a mother of four who is married to Scott. October Road's Odette Annable will play Trudy Cooper, wife to Gordo Cooper, and the youngest astro-wife, The Hollywood Reporter learned.

Once Upon a Time's JoAnna Garcia Swisher will play astro-wife Betty Grissom and Hell on Wheels alumna Dominique McElligott will play Louise Shepard in the astronaut-based show. Dexter star Desmond Harrington will play Alan Shepard, one of the astronauts and the first American in space. Bret Harrison, Azure Parsons and Zoe Boyle will also star in the show.

Stephanie SavageGossip Girl's writer, will write the script and executive produce the show. Josh Schwartz, Len Goldstein and Michael London will also be executive producers on the series.
