After the success of the 2008 hit comedy Marley & Me, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, NBC has decided to bring the story to the television world. Marley & Me is now being made into a TV series.

According to Deadline, the TV series will pick up where the movie left off. The film was originally inspired by John Grogan's bestselling novel by the same name.

"John and Jenny Grogan — the characters played in the movie by Aniston and Wilson — and their three kids, a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old and 6-year-old girls, have just moved back to Florida so that John can take up his newspaper column once again," Deadline reported about the new TV storyline.

"However, when a stray puppy — 'owned,' but not well, by their neighbors — ends up on their doorstep, they are forced to adopt it. This dog, named Marley for the fact that they use Marley's old leash and tags on her, is as willful, destructive and delightful as her original namesake. And she will help shed light not only on the growing pains of the Grogan family, but also the lives of the neighbors, and fellow dog owners, around them," it reported.

Sex and the City writer Jenny Bicks will pen the NBC series and David Frankel will direct the pilot. According to the publication, Marley & Me has received a put pilot commitment from the network. Karen Rosenfelt will produce with Jenny and David on the single-camera comedy under the 20th Century Fox Television banner.

Marley & Me is one of many TV remakes in development. In addition to Big, which is being adapted by Fox, CBS is taking on Rush Hour for a revival, and 20th TV previously talked about adapting Say Anything into a TV series, but has since pulled the plug.

"Key to the remakes is having the original producers on board — something 20th TV learned with its planned Say Anything reboot," The Hollywood Reporter said. "While the studio's parent company owns the rights to the feature, the original producers were not involved. The studio legally could have moved forward without their consent, but ultimately opted to scrap the TV follow-up."
