With Halloween quickly approaching this coming Friday, it appears safe to say that we're all prepping ourselves by purchasing large quantities of candy that we'll plan to dole out to the many trick-or-treaters that come our way. Or, of course, just eat them alone on our couches. Regardless, while everyone knows the damage too much sugar can do, it seems that during this holiday we just ... don't care. Well, thanks to John Oliver and this newest video from Last Week Tonight, that may change –– after a brief take down of Playboy's "Sexy John Oliver" and "Sexy Louis CK" costumes, of course.

Following so, the former Daily Show correspondent delivered a detailed ten-minute-long speech about the harms that the sweetener industry delivers. Because after all, as he notes, Halloween isn't just about inappropriately sexy costumers –– it's really about candy!

"This Halloween," Oliver reports, "Americans will spend $2.2 billion on candy." Which makes him question whether or not we can define sugar as a "treat," considering we eat it (in large sums) all year round. The report goes on to claim that Americans eat 75 pounds of sugar a year for "every man, woman and child in the United States."

So, why do we love sugar so much? Well, apparently we're just "genetically programmed" to. "Sugar activates a special way that's very reminiscent of drugs like cocaine," claims an expert in the report.

Want some more sugar facts? Check out the below video from the famed HBO series.

So, anyone else thinking about taking down their sugar intake a little bit? Or did everyone just go out to grab those John Oliver and Louis CK costumes?
