It has now been two months since Joan Rivers's untimely passing, and the world is still mourning over the comedy legend's death. The 81-year-old Fashion Police host's daughter Melissa Rivers has been keeping a low profile since her mother's death, but she made her first public appearance Saturday, Nov. 1, as she co-emceed the Our Grief Support Center's annual gala, staying strong and making jokes.

According to E! News, the daughter of Joan spoke out about her own personal grief during the last few months, but did so in a way that her mother would have been proud of. Melissa's speech was infused with some of her mother's signature comedy.

"About seven weeks ago, I lost my mother," Melissa began, "and I feel like I'm in the Hair Club for Men ad. Not only am I the ambassador, but I'm a client, too, now. It's a little awkward."

Throughout the speech, Melissa included little jokes, even during a rough part when she started to get choked up.

"Does everyone know what the drag queen's cry is? So you don't mess up your make-up, you have to lean over. So I'm crying like a drag queen," she said.

Michele Prince, executive director of the event, told The Hollywood Reporter that Melissa "was incredibly beautiful and strong" during her speech and at the event. "She knew that we are a room full of people who love and support her and I think she felt that."

It wasn't just at this event that Melissa channeled her mother's incredible wit and timing. She also delivered a moving yet comical eulogy at Joan's funeral earlier this year, according to E! News.

"I love having you live with me, and I am grateful for every minute Cooper and I have with you," Melissa said during the speech about her late mother while mentioning Joan's grandson. "You are also 30 days late with the rent."
