It looks like Starbucks has found themselves at the center of a pretty heated debate. The coffee chain has just outlawed their employees from wearing diamonds. While we have heard about companies banning certain clothing or makeup items from the floor, this is the first we are hearing about a specific type of gemstone. The chain is saying that it is all about safety, but some employees aren't taking the new regulation so well.

E! News is reporting that the coffee shop has just debuted a new dress code for their employees and they are forbidding their staff from wearing anything with diamonds or precious gems on them, including engagement rings.

As the Starbucks dress code points out, "There are food safety rules we have to live by. Here's the fine print — wearing a ring is okay if it's a plain band, no stones. Unfortunately, no watches, bracelets or wristbands are allowed. Simple necklace can be worn under your clothes."

A representative for Starbucks spoke out to CNN claiming that the new policy is based on federal food safety guidelines. The retail chain is very worried that the gemstones, from any kind of accessory, could fall off into one of the drinks and become a chocking hazard for a customer.

Now, while the jewelry is an issue, it doesn't seem like earrings are of much concern for the retailer as they stated that studs in ears and noses are fine. This makes us wonder, couldn't an earring fall off into one of the drinks just as easily as a diamond?

The Daily Mail also posted a few tweets that angered customers wrote on their Twitter pages following the new regualtions.
