Lorde is celebrating her 18th birthday by sharing a new music video with the world. The New Zealand singer has unveiled the video clip for the song "Yellow Flicker Beat", which will appear on the official soundtrack to the upcoming mega film release, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. It was released at midnight to commemorate the singer's 18th birthday, with old pal Taylor Swift also on hand to help her celebrate.

The video is a bracingly strong and independent scene; the "Royals" singer adopts a half dozen different identities in the clip including a bouffant '50s bombshell in a neon-lit hotel room, a Peter Gabriel-esque '80s power suit babe, a guest at an extravagant '20s party (falling somewhere between The Great Gatsby and the ballroom scene from The Shining) and a lonely white suited angel in a bus stop. Each appears to show off a side to Lorde (real name: Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor) that she's channeling in the song (which is channels main character Katniss Everdeen's fight throughout The Hunger Games series), and feels like a maturation of Lorde's brazen electro-pop sound, helped, no doubt, by the production from Paul Epworth (Adele).

It's been a big year for the Kiwi singer after wining two Grammys and appearing onstage to sing "All Apologies" with the remaining members of Nirvana in April, before playing Lollapalooza and various festivals around the world, she's kept busy while trying to write her second album, the follow up to last year's Pure Heroine

In addition to contributing "Yellow Flicker Beat", Lorde also curated the film's soundtrack, telling Billboard "I knew this was right for me as an artist and I felt it would be cool for my career. People that see me as having a couple of hits and performing on an awards show would see that, between records, I'd committed to a pretty serious body of work."

Also appearing on the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack will be such notable names as The Chemical Brothers feat. Miguel, Haim, Chvrches, Major Lazer with Ariana Grande, Charli XCX feat. Simon Le Bon and more. It will be released Nov. 17, while the movie starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss - widely tipped to be one of the year's biggest - hits cinemas on Nov. 21.
