Following Ann Shoket's abrupt departure from Seventeen in September, the Hearst-owned magazine has announced that it has hired a new editor-in-chief. Michelle Tan, formerly special projects editor of People, announced on Twitter Friday that she would be taking up the role. Tan will report to Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, who was named editorial director of the title in September.

Tan had been at People since 2002, steadily rising in the ranks from editorial assistant to her current post, where she was responsible for special issues such as the World's Most Beautiful People edition.

Shoket left Seventeen after seven years with the magazine. According to Fashionista, she's staying on at Hearst as a consultant on new product development alongside Hearst Magazine President, David Carey and Editorial Director, Ellen Levine.

Seventeen's demographic has seen a dip in ad pages in recent months. Ad pages dropped 6.2 percent to 106 in September. Tan starts at her new position in December 2014.
