On New Girl, Nick and Jess are heading into some uncharted territory and they both have some pretty unique ways of dealing with it. Zooey Dechanel and Jake Johnson play co-habituating exes Nick and Jess on the Fox comedy series, which is unique in itself, but their friendly relationship is about to hit a speed bump, as it could possibly cause their future relationships to fizzle out before they even start.

According to E! News, Nick and Jess will hatch a plan on Tuesday all-new episode titled "Goldmine" so that their living together doesn't cause their new relationships to end before they even begin.

The couple is facing the hardship of telling their new prospective love interests that they are living with an ex, so writer Berkley Johnson came up with the idea of having Nick "play gay" as to not upset her new men.

In the video clip that E! News got their hands on, writer Johnson explains what brought the idea into his head.

"Nick playing gay is based on 250 episodes of Three's Company," the writer revealed. "It just seems like a fun thing for Jake to do, like his take on being gay."

In the video, Nick uses the fact that he still lives with his ex as a way to get his hookups out of his bed.

However, when Jess is worried he'll scare her new man off, Nick suggests that she tell him that, "I live with my ex but there is nothing to worry about because he's gay now."

Jess isn't the only one getting a new love interest this season, as TVFanatic confirmed that Schmidt would see a new lady love in Friends With Better Lives actress Zoe Lister-Jones.

The all-new episode will premiere tomorrow night on Fox at 9 pm.
