After a long time waiting, it's finally here: Bruce Springsteen's first ever children's book! But we should warn you, while he's billed with the title "co-author," the iconic musician told The Daily Show host Jon Stewart that aside from looking at the drawings, he really didn't do too much. During last night's episode of the Comedy Central hit, Springsteen stopped by to promote the new book, Outlaw Pete, alongside his illustrator and co-author, Frank Caruso.

Springsteen and Caruso came out to an uber excited crowd, all of whom gladly shouted the famed "Bruuuuce" chant as the duo sat down for the interview. When the crowd settled, Stewart joked, "I want to be clear. For those of you in the audience who know you, Mr. Springsteen, only as an author, you also have a musical career." The interview then went into the story of how Outlaw Pete came to fruition. And from what we've gleaned, it took a little while –– mainly because Springsteen took his time visiting that "pile room" of his.

Check out the full interview below:

Taken from the Boss' song of the same name off the 2009 album Working on a Dream, Outlaw Pete follows the story of a young man – or as Stewart notes, a baby in a diaper wearing a cowboy hat – as he grows up and matures.

Check out the song here:

The Daily Show site notes that Caruso is both a cartoonist and the Vice President of Creative Services for King Features. Aside from the new Springsteen book, Caruso has created the graphic novel Heart Transplant and illustrated Shushbye: Close Your Eyes. Adding to his resume, he's has earned himself two Emmy awards for Outstanding Children's Program and Outstanding Informational/Instructional Program for SeeMore's Playhouse.

And Bruce Springsteen... well, come on. You already know.

To purchase Outlaw Pete, head on over to Amazon or visit your local bookstore (if there are still such things, of course).
