Michael Kors Follows Marc Jacobs And Makes Its Instagram Shoppable

Michael Kors has just launched #InstaKors, a program which allows users to register their email addresses and Instagram usernames at the special landing page. Michael Kors then shoots a linked email when the customer likes a shoppable photo on Instagram.

Thousands of brands, bloggers and retailers post products to Instagram every day, but due to the social media site's "no-links handicap," they can't link out to those products for followers to buy. MStars News recently reported that Marc Jacobs Beauty debuted a solution to this frustrating problem by creating a Shop via @MarcBeauty Instagram website. Nordstrom has also developed programs that make its images on Instagram shoppable.

Fashionista spoke with Kelly Coller, senior director of marketing for Kendo Brands, an LVMH entity focused on developing new beauty brands in partnership with creative leaders. She explained that the brand's in-house digital and marketing teams have been working since last spring to develop the app.

They felt it would be a service uniquely suited to the Marc Jacobs customer, whom she says is a bit younger than other luxury beauty consumers, in the 25-35 age range and digitally engaged.

It's not ideal or seamless, but until Instagram updates with linking capabilities, it may be the best option for brands that might otherwise miss out on sales. Check out Michael Kors's latest #InstaKors posts via Instagram:
