Andy Dalton was once the undoubted leader of the Cincinnati Bengals, but now, as some fans are saying, they aren't buying his "excuses and lies" any more. He claimed to be sick before their latest (scrappy) NFL win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans are still hoping to see A.J. McCarron get the starting job, which means they'll also see more of his stunning wife, Katherine Webb, but is that what they need? Time and time again, below NFL level, A.J. has proved himself to be a real, motivating leader, and perhaps that's what the Bengals need if they're to be led to a Super Bowl win this season.

Dalton led his team to another win, but he had an awful all-round game, but his teammate backed him up. Left tackle Andrew Whitworth explained "He didn't say a word all morning," Dalton added "I didn't puke on the field. Coming in from warmups [and] right before we went out there for the game, I tried to get everything out as much as I could,"

Of course, he could well have been sick, but are his teammates covering up for his poor form. He has had some horrific, career-worst games this season, and he couldn't have been sick before each and every game, right? The McCarron and Dalton debate will not die down, and one can wonder if one horrific display would give A.J. the chance many believe he deserves.

A.J. recently tweeted "Everybody in the state should stand up for UAB & help keep their football program alive. I wish everybody the best. Keep the Blazers alive."

This shows that he's able to speak out for what he believes in, and that's the kind of attitude the Bengals could really do with, not excuses. It might not be tomorrow, but surely his time is coming.
