It has been the biggest of big years for The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, having taken over NBC's flagship late night show from Jay Leno in February, spending 2014 interviewing almost every celebrity under the sun — from Bradley Cooper to Barbra Streisand — and then putting most of them in exceptionally funny situations and challenges. And now he has got an impressive accolade to top it off: Entertainment Weekly's 2014 Entertainer of the Year.

That's according to EW, which has named Saturday Night Live-alum Fallon its Entertainer of the Year and has the late night host on the cover of this week's magazine.

With it comes a substantial feature interview with Jimmy Fallon, with plenty of examination as to how the married 40-year-old father of one has taken over the entertainment biz. In the highest praise possible, EW says that since taking over the The Tonight Show, Fallon "turned the revered late-night franchise into the hottest party in town, a celebrity playpen full of games, music, surprise guests, games and good vibes all around."

And it points out that not only are his NBC ratings up — the show is No. 1 in late night — but his social media following has gone through the roof. As they say, "Thanks to Fallon, The Tonight Show has gone viral."

But the ever-humble Fallon states in the cover story interview that it's not all due to him — it has definitely been a team effort.

"We honestly have the best human beings for this job possible," said Fallon. "They're bleeding for the show. Everybody's at their A game."

Even Jay Leno has kind words for Fallon, comparing him to the godfather of late night hosts, Johnny Carson. Leno calls Fallon "more like Johnny than any other host, Johnny was very boyish when he was 40 years old."

Billboard also offered up its top 10 musical moments of Fallon's first year on The Tonight Show, also pointing out that the host has continued his reign as the king of the late night viral video. As it explains, he delivered such highlights as delivering a great impression of Bono and U2 with The Roots on "Desire," getting Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe to rap Blackalicious's "Alphabet Aerobics" and scored big-time viral-ness with the show's premiere episode skit, the "Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing" alongside Will Smith.

It did, however, miss out on Meghan Trainor joining Fallon and The Roots to play "All About that Bass" on classroom instruments. And who can forget the Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers's Chad Smith's drum off?

What do you think? Is Jimmy Fallon deserving of 2014's Entertainer of the Year? Is there anyone who's had a bigger year? And is he the best late night host on TV at the moment? Could he ever surpass Johnny Carson? Comment below!
