Bones actress, Emily Deschanel, has a new mission in life -- to save farm animals! The longtime vegan actress had an eye-opening experience recently and has decided to help save animals at shelters as a result.

After visiting a Farm Sanctuary animal shelter for the first time, Emily revealed that she wants to help those poor animals in any way possible. "I had already known that farm animals have feelings and intellect, but then to really see them up close and spend time with these animals was pretty incredible," Emily told People.

"I didn't realize how individual chickens could be, and the people who work there know each sheep by name from far away. They're individual creatures who have their own little souls and personalities and quirks."

Even though she has been involved with the animal saving organizations for eight years, she is now more focused on helping the animals and the organization get better treatment for all farm animals.

"Ten billion animals a year are killed for food in the United States alone. It's insane. I've done different things for different animals, from primates to dogs and cats, but I really like to focus on [farm animals] because the numbers are so high and people aren't as aware," the 38 year old revealed to the publication.

Emily is a longtime vegan and she wants her son, who is now three years old, to be able to grow up with healthier animals. "I want him to be comfortable with these animals and aware of them and why we choose not to eat them. To have compassion for these animals is a great place to start, and that's what I love for my son to gain from spending time with these animals," she explained.

As for Emily's TV show, Bones, we have news for you on that front as well. "Recurring player Michael Grant Terry notes that 'things are going a little bit better now' for Wendell - including the possibility of a love interest (played by Tony nominee Shalita Grant) who's a literal Florence Nightingale," TV Line reported earlier this week.
