Robert Griffin, Jay Gruden, Colt McCoy, Dan Snyder: Will RG3 Be Traded? Coach "Done" With Struggling Brand-Name QB In Washington

The Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden feud in Washington is going from bad to worse with reports saying that, having decided to go with backup quarterback Colt McCoy, Coach Gruden is "done" with star QB RG3, saying he spends too much time on his brand, rather than working on his game. Griffin, the second pick in the 2012 NFL draft behind Indianapolis Colts superstar QB Andrew Luck, looks to be on the outer in Washington with both coach and management, so will he be traded, and where could he end up? 

As The Washington Post's Jason Reid explains "it's unclear whether owner Dan Snyder and President and General Manager Bruce Allen are in lock step with their coach" but that "after working with Griffin for more than 10 months, however, Gruden is now done with him," he says, citing sources within the Washington organization.

A lot of that, says Reid, has to with the way Griffin is conducting his business off the field and how it's impacting his quarterback play on the field. Gruen, says Reid has been non-plussed with the way Griffin has "seemed more concerned about enhancing his brand than about honing his pocket skills". 

Reid adds that Gruden seems contemptuous of Griffin's celebrity, rolling his eyes "after being informed about the life lessons the 24-year-old offered on social media". He was additionally upset that Griffin wouldn't "acknowledge his [own] role in his failure".

Griffin has kept a low social media profile since being criticized by his coach three weeks ago, simply posting a montage of pics from Thanksgiving.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, however reports that Griffin will still have another shot at being "Washington's starting QB before this season is over", tweeting out: 

There's a "real chance" Robert Griffin III will be Washington's starting QB before this season is over, per source.

It's something that Reid acknowledges in his Post piece, saying "It wouldn't be surprising if Snyder and Allen were tempted to give Griffin another shot at reclaiming the starting job". 

The problem with trading him, Reid explains, is that Snyder and Allen could shoot themselves in the foot as they try to "recoup a portion of the king's ransom it took to get Griffin".

As Fox Sports explain, "After a mesmerizing first season in which he won rookie of the year, Griffin has had a turbulent, injury-plagued career," after Washington "traded four high-round draft picks to select Griffin in 2012."

Rant Sports' Michael Terrill says that bringing in struggling Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler could be the solution, even though "obviously" the Bears wouldn't accept a straight up swap of Cutler for Griffin.
