Sony Playstation made a splash this weekend when it announced one of the most polarizing and popular players in baseball, 23-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, will grace the cover of MLB The Show 2015, SB Nation reports.

The video game company released a photo of the cover, which shows Puig with his head down and both arms up, fully packed stadium in the distance. It's a break from The Show's traditionally conservative covers of star hitters doing hitter things, like swinging a bat or running. In fact, Puig isn't even holding a bat, ball or glove in the cover photo. He's straight-up pimping a home run.

That's so Puig.

The company picked a player known for his talent and his antics, a player both loved and loathed. But don't coronate The Show as great risk-takers yet — they still picked one of the most popular players in the sport's second largest market. That said, there will be a lot of people who will say if they wanted the best player in the game, they should have looked to one of Puig's teammates.

Puig becomes the first Cuban-born player to grace the cover of the classic video game franchise, and the 10th consecutive hitter to do so. He succeeds 2013 cover boy (and 2014 ESPY winner) Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen in 2012. Before that, we were stuck with Joe Mauer for two straight years. By that point, Mauer was just hitting singles, and nobody plays The Show for the contact hitters.

Puig is younger, flashier choice, and he also represents the league's shifting demographic landscape. Last season, 19 Cuban-born players were featured on Opening Day rosters, the most of all time, according to MLB.com. And as more Cuban stars defect, looking to cash in, that number will rise.

As for the game cover, what do you think? Does Puig make you more or less likely to buy it?
