Why is Blake Shelton afraid of his wife, fellow country artist Miranda Lambert? The Voice judge - whose latest album Bringing Back The Sunshine debuted at No.1 on the BIllboard top 200 chart - revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that he's wary of his stunning wife due to the contents of her music, and that he makes sure not to get competitive with her about awards... just in case.

The five-time CMA male vocalist of the year - who has had 13 consecutive No. 1 singles - took to Jimmy Kimmel Live and explained that when he's nominated for awards in the same category as his wife, which has happened "a bunch of times", he makes sure to not boast about his chances... because he still wants to get laid!

"It doesn't do good for me to be competitive with her," the star laughed, "because the idea of me going 'ha ha, i'm gonna beat you'... it sets the wrong tone."

"Cos," the pizza enthusiast deadpanned, "I'm still trying to get laid."

"I just let her roll right over me," he added.

The warning to not cross her, he pointed out, is right there in her music, saying to Jimmy, "Have you heard her music? All her music," he grins, "is about killing guys and burning their houses down! and beating up people! Thats my wife!"

Earlier in the interview, Shelton also revealed that he's now buddies with "boss" Carson Daly saying that they "went to the bass pro shop together and went, like, Christmas shopping. Man, he had a cart full of crap!" laughed the country star. "It was piled on there. He bought some man stuff."

Being that they're such best friends, it comes as no surprise then that Shelton was also just announced as a musical guest on NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly, which will show from New York's Times Square on New Year's Eve, alongside superstars Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Seth MacFarlane, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams.

The Voice's live finale takes place on Dec. 16 on NBC. Check out Blake Shelton performing his single "Lonely Tonight" with Ashely Monroe below:
