With the NBA regular season just more than a quarter of the way through, there's still a ton of time left to play. But what's the fun of waiting until the spring to consider the league's awards winners? The 2014-15 season has so far been defined by surprises: The Golden State Warriors are the top team in the league at 20-2 and the Toronto Raptors lead the Eastern Conference. Furthermore, if the season ended today, the Cleveland Cavaliers would be a No. 5 seed and the Oklahoma City Thunder wouldn't be playoff eligible. All this strangeness lends itself to the most exciting MVP race in recent memory.

Who's the most responsible for turning the league on its head? Let's meet the contenders.

Warriors SG Stephen Curry

Curry is the best player on the best team, leading the Warriors with 23.7 points per game on 48.7 percent shooting and 40.6 percent from 3-point range. He's also averaging 7.7 assists per game and grabbing 5.1 rebounds per contest — impressive for a guard. Curry most recently scored 38 points to lead the Warriors over the New Orleans Pelicans for their 16th straight win. He's also automatic from the free throw line, shooting at 92.5 percent.

Pelicans C Anthony Davis

Still just 21, Davis is averaging a double-double and is an absolute deterrent down low. His 24.3 points per game is good for fourth in the league, while his 10.2 rebounds per game rank ninth. For good measure, he's adding 2.7 blocks per contest, easily the best mark in the NBA. The National recently wrote that nobody can stop Davis right now.

Rockets G James Harden

Following The Brow is The Beard, one of the main reasons the Houston Rockets is 18-5 and third in the Western Conference. Harden leads the NBA in scoring at 26.3 and is shooting 41.7 percent from the field. Harden's 89.1 percent mark from the free-throw line is helping him follow in former teammate Kevin Durant's footsteps as the league's top scorer. Durant's early season injury probably puts him out of the running for the MVP and could throw Harden into the race.
