Thierry Henry: Where Does the Arsenal Legend Rank Among Best Premier League Players of All-Time?

Thierry Henry, the fiery French striker who became Arsenal's leading scorer with 228 career goals, retired Tuesday, Dec. 16, from professional soccer, according to the Daily Mail. He played his final game last month for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS. He will be remembered as a champion but where does he rank among best Premier League players of all-time?

The list of trophies Henry has listed is eye-opening. Between 1999 and 2007, his teams won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups. He added a Champions League championship after moving on to Barcelona, and won the World Cup with France in 2009.

"It's been an incredible journey," Henry told BCC.

His retirement makes everyone wonder: where does the legend rank among the best Premier League Players of All-Time?

Alan Shearer:

The 1993-1994 Footballer Writer's Association Player of the Year scored 260 goals in the divison, according to City AM. He set the league record with 34 goals in 1994-1995, and won a title. Overall, Shearer won the Golden Boot three consecutive times from 1994-1997.

Wayne Rooney:

He won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, was the Premier League Player of the Month five times, and scored his first goal at age 17, making Rooney, at that point, the youngest player ever to score a Premier League goal. He was the third Manchester United player to score 100 goals. His total of 164 in league play is elite.

Thierry Henry:

He took home three consecutive Golden Boot awards from 2003-2006 (four overall) and scored 175 total goals in the legue. Henry owns the highest goals-per-game ratio of all scorers who have scored more than 100 times, averaging 0.68 goals per game in 258 appearences. His aggresive, graceful interpretation of the striker position revolutionalized the position, and that will ultimately serve as his legacy.
