The Sony hack story is ongoing and has had serious repercussions for numerous parties, but one of the more interesting tidbits unearthed from this whole mess is the news that Marvel and Sony have been holding discussions to bring Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some new details seem to reveal that Marvel wants the character in both parts of The Avengers: Infinity War, aka The Avengers 3 and The Avengers 4.

ComicBookMovie.com reports someone named Val Broeksmit has been perusing the leaked Sony information and discovered an email exchange between Andrew Gumpert, the President of Worldwide Business Affairs and Operations at Columbia Pictures, and Amy Pascal, the Chairwoman of Sony Entertainment.

In this email chain, Gumpert tells Pascal that if the deal with Marvel goes through and Marvel gets control of the Spider-Man character, then they do not want Spider-Man's next solo film to simply be a continuation of the storyline in Captain America: Civil War because Spidey would make a cameo in it. Instead, Spider-Man's new universe would "exist in a world where that story has happened" and "superheroes are now divided into two groups."

Gumpert also revealed that in Captain America 3, Tony Stark would recruit Spider-Man and give him a suit. Spidey would also meet Black Widow and Captain America. Marvel would also want the next solo Spider-Man film to feature Peter Parker back in high school and living with his Aunt May in Queens.

Finally, Marvel wants Spider-Man to appear in the two-part The Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and 2019. Marvel reportedly wants Sony to guarantee a second solo Spider-Man film in 2019 because the former does not want a great length of time between Spidey's standalone movies.

Based on the emails, Gumpert seems to support Marvel's plan and thinks it would benefit Sony more than Marvel. Pascal, on the other hand, seems to want to wait to release the solo Spider-Man films until after The Avengers 3 and 4.
