What makes a comedian a comedian? Many would merely cut it down to something as vague as "someone who tells jokes" – but if you ask Jerry Seinfeld and a number of his funny friends, it appears there's so much more involved. The veteran comic recently put together a small group of clips to release his newest Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Single Shot "What Is A Comedian?" to try and answer the question. And to help him along, the comic invited in clips from his episodes with Top Five writer-director-star Chris Rock, former (and some may say fired) Tonight Show host Jay Leno, Parks and Rec star Aziz Ansari and a number of others.

The famed Seinfeld star kicked off the episode with, "Don't you think comedians are really smart idiots?" while riding alongside fellow comic – and one of the most successful touring acts around today – Brian Regan.

He then shifts into numerous cuts with the likes of Sarah Silverman, Todd Barry and even Sirius XM host Howard Stern.

"People don't understand that what makes a comedian funny is how serious he is," the comic tells Rock, who agrees and goes on to claim that comics are also comparative to detectives. "We're always on the case!"

If you're a fan of comedy, it's hard to disagree with Leno, who claims that comedy is like a concealed weapon. "You carry it around, but no one knows you have it until you take it out," he says.

Perhaps the Top Five star said it best –– "80% of your job is just paying attention to sh*t at a level that most people don't pay attention."

Comedy fans, what is a comedian to you?
