The Wizards are off to a surprisingly excellent start to the 2014-15 NBA regular season, and currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 22-10 record. They also at the No. 11th spot in Marc Stein's official NBA power rankings for ESPN. Says Stein, however, that the Wiz are headed in the right direction behind John Wall:

"New Year's Day 2010 was when we learned about the Gilbert Arenas/Javaris Crittenton locker-room mess that decimated this franchise. A half-decade later, led by the relentless John Wall, Washington has rebounded to the point it won 20 games before Christmas for the first time since 1978-79."

The defending champion Spurs are off to an unusually slow start to the NBA regular season, posting their first losing month since 1999 as they've limited minutes for Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli and dealt with a rash of injuries to the likes of Parker and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard. They currently sit seventh in the exceptionally tough Western Conference with their 20-14 record.

According to Stein's Power Rankings - where the Spurs rank 9th out of 30 - the Spurs are looking fine.

"The Spurs' lives aren't supposed to get complicated until the Rodeo Trip every February. Instead they're 7-9 in December with two games to go in a month containing no fewer than seven back-to-backs. The champs are 12-4 when Timmy, Tony, Manu and Kawhi all play; 7-9 when at least one is missing."
