The Barclays Premier League has a bit of a controversy on its hands these days because 36-year-old goal scorer Frank Lampard has yet to move to the U.S. to start playing for the MLS's NYCFC. This transfer of the Chelsea FC legend was widely publicized in the summer of 2014, before the current EPL season started, but the player has been on loan to Premier League defending champions Manchester City ever since. When will he make the move and how has this affected the American fans that bought season tickets to a team without the star player? Well the League and Lampard himself have addressed the situation this week, so read on to see what has been said.

Besides the NYCFC fans that are waiting for the international star footballer to come over the "pond" to play in the MLS, Chelsea supporters are reeling as well. To be fair, though, the club offered Lampard a free transfer, so fans of the Blues can't be too mad about that- even when Frank is scoring against the only other team he's played for.

According to The Guardian, the EPL is stating that Manchester City hasn't broken any rules in having Lampard play this season. In fact, he's contracted to finish out the rest of the 2014/2015 season with the defending EPL champs, perhaps even beating his former squad, Chelsea, for the trophy! We'll have to see about that, but whatever happens, he's headed to New York.

"Frank Lampard is registered as a Manchester City player until the end of the 2014-15 season," a statement from the EPL said this week, according to ESPNFC.com. "The Premier League has sought and received assurances from Manchester City that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football Group with New York City FC relating to the player."

Check out what EPL commentators have been saying this week about the controversy:

Meanwhile, Lampard also released a statement to clear up all of the "nonsense" he's been reading about himself and the situation.

"I want to make it completely clear about my situation as I have read a lot of lies and nonsense over the last few days," the statement from Chelsea's top all-time goal scorer said. "When released from Chelsea last year at the end of my contract I signed a commitment to play in NYCFC for two years starting January 1st 2015. I was then offered the chance to train and be a part of the Man City squad in the interim to keep myself in the best shape going into New York. This period has since been extended by Man City and I will now start playing for NYCFC at the end of this current Premier League season. There has always been a constant dialogue between all parties in this time to find the best solution for everyone. I can say that I am very excited about arriving in New York and giving everything to the team to make us a success in the MLS as soon as possible. Thanks everyone for your ongoing support and I wish everyone a healthy and happy 2015."
