Girls creator and star Lena Dunham took to The Tonight Show and explained how she enjoyed Howard Stern's 60th birthday party, even if he once called her "a fat Jonah Hill looking girl". Ahead of the premiere of the fourth season of her show this weekend, Dunham related to host Jimmy Fallon just how important Howard Stern has been for society, and how surprised she is that she appreciates him so much now.

Dunham called Stern "a man who's truly made a difference", but if you had have told her that five years ago, Dunham would've "slapped you in the face."

Stern - who Dunham says once called her "a fat Jonah Hill looking girl" (according to The New York Daily News it was actually "a little fat girl who looks like Jonah Hill and taking her clothes off") - and Dunham explained how she gave as good as she got, saying that Howard Stern looked like a "cartoon of a female Jewish horse."

She goes on to call Stern an "voice for important causes", "outspoken feminist", phrases that confuse her due to her early perception of Stern.

"I didn't think I was going to cry with joy and be so moved by his life's work and his relationship with [anchor] Robin Quivers," Dunham added. "I lost it."

Dunham also says that we should be more thankful that Stern is in the world... check out the interview below.

Dunham also offered up some Tonight Show web-exclusive 'Unqualified Advice', talking about getting back with exes, and breaking up with people, cat allergies, hairless cats, blondes versus brunettes, and Taylor Swift. Girls returns to HBO this Sunday Jan. 11 at 9 p.m.
