The rebooted Twin Peaks TV show from David Lynch and Mark Frost just got a bit more exciting because star Kyle MacLachlan has officially joined the cast of the Showtime series. Reprising his role as Special Agent Dale Cooper on the cult classic series that made him an iconic figure for generations, the current star of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will return to the scene of the crime in 2016 for season 3, 25 years after Cooper had the dream of Laura Palmer telling him that she'd see him again in that same amount of time!

The news mainly spread across social media before news sources picked it up this week. Check out some official Twitter posts from David Lynch and Showtime below:

MacLachlan appeared at Showtime's presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, according to TV Line. "I'm very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks," the actor said, then added, jokingly, "May the forest be with you."

So what can we expect from the returning series? Well, according to Showtime chief David Nevins, Frost and Lynch could give us something that fans have been waiting for for over two decades: closure!

"They've been very specific in promising closure...and from what I've seen, I think this is going to live up to expectations and then some," he said this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nevins added that the network will let the creators of the show have full reign of what happens and that he's only involved with "writing checks and leaving them alone."
