The son of Jackie Chan, Jaycee Chan, has been sentenced to six months in a China jail last week following a drug charge.

According to The Guardian, Chan, who was caught as the latest celebrity in the government's harsh anti-narcotics campaign, was charged back in December with "the crime of sheltering others to take drugs" when he tested positive for marijuana, after police found the drug at his home.

The son of the Rush Hour star did face a maximum prison sentence of three years, but the judge over the case in Beijing's Eastern district court sentenced Chan to six months in prison "and fined him 2,000 yuan (£213), according to a microblog post by the court," said The Guardian.

Chan could be released in one month, because he already did time while in detention since last August, according to a lawyer.

Prosecutors revealed that Chan "voluntarily pleaded guilty" after he allowed two people to use drugs at his home.

"I have broken the law and should be punished," Chan addressed to the court. "When I return to society, I will not repeat this because I have let my family and friends down yet again."

The have been a number of celebrities that have participated in the government's campaign to get harder on busting people for drugs. Chan, and singer Li Daimo (sentenced to nine months) are just two of many put in custody last year by Chinese authorities on drug-related charges that have been broadcasted everywhere, including social media.

Jackie Chan previously revealed that he was ashamed of his son's actions and did not appeal for a lighter sentence for his son, according to Yahoo.

Jackie and his wife, Joan Lin were missing in action during their son's hearing on Jan. 9.

Jackie Chan once served as a spokesman for the China National Anti-Drug Committee a couple of years ago, advocating anti-drug education.
