Though the series finale of Sons of Anarchy aired on FX, BOOM! Studios isn't done with the motorcycle club yet. Back from the dead, Bobby Munson (Mark Boone Junior) has one more ride left in him, thanks to writer Ed Brisson and artist Matías Bergara's crowd-pleasing Sons of Anarchy #17

During the recent New York Comic Con, MStars News had the pleasure of speaking with the Sheltered scribe about the SOA comic book series. Just like in issue #16, certain members of SAMCRO were going to got their own solo, standalone installments.

Brisson revealed to MStars, "So I got to do that a bit, and then doing a solo story with Juice [Theo Rossi], one with Bobby [Mark Boone Junior], and one with Happy [David Labrava]. I like the idea of having these guys off by their own and to deal with the same sort of sh*t they're dealing with the crew, but seeing how they deal with it on their own. So that's the goal for the next arc anyway."

The seventeenth installment features Bobby out on his own, without any of the motorcycle club members showing up. Taking place before the tragic events of seventh season, Brisson comes up with original comical tale featuring the Elvis-impersonating character. Because viewers know how Bobby ends up, the installment feels bittersweet and yet, laugh-out-loud at the same time.

In the narrative, Brisson switches between the comical and dramatic tones nonstop. Stuck in Las Vegas, Bobby just happens to be the main event at a dive bar. Needing extra cash to make it back to Charming, Bobby has to show a bunch of sleazy tourists how to live like an outlaw. By the time Bobby wakes up hungover, he'll learn why there are so many songs about leaving Las Vegas, rather than staying.

More humorous than hard-edged, Bergara delivers an amusing two-pager, depicting Bobby's all-night drunken binge. The page layout is split into eight parts, sometimes more, as Bobby becomes the worst tour guide ever. The debauchery becomes over-the-top to heighten the slapstick aspects.

Ed Brisson's fast-paced storytelling and Matías Bergara's rapid-fire artwork make Sons of Anarchy #17 a hilarious read. If you miss the TV show, this will certainly fill in the void.
