Lifetime is on a role with new premieres of movies including Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, Whitney, and now their Saturday, January 24th premiere of With This Ring. MStars News reporter, Star Connor had the opportunity to talk to one of your favorite characters from the #1 hit BET show, Being Mary Jane, Stephen Bishop, who will be starring in this weekend's new movie, With This Ring.

During their one on one interview, Bishop talked about the production of the Lifetime film that includes Regina Hall (Think Like a Man Too), Jill Scott  (Steel Magnolias) and rapper Eve (Single Ladies), his character (Nate) on the show, plans in 2015 and more.

Bishop is best known for his portrayal of baseball legend, David Justice, in the six time Academy Award Nominated film, Moneyball,  opposite Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Chris Pratt.

The actor knows a thing or two about baseball as a former minor league player for The Atlanta Braves. Bishop played for three years before he decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. Since, he started acting, Stephen has appeared in several popular films including: Safe House, The Rundown, Friday Night Lights and more.

In addition to his acting career, Bishop is very active in community service, helping the U.S. government and being a part of the board of the nonprofit organization, #RAKE (Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere), which grants and houses innovative charitable initiatives.

The new film, With This Ring, was written and directed by Nzingha Stewart of the BET hit show, The Game. The movie features three single ladies who make a pact to get married within the year. The ladies will have ups and downs as they are on their quest, as one will make it to the altar in 12 months.

Let's learn a little bit about Bishop's character:

Star: Tell us a little bit about your character in the new film and what everybody can expect.

Stephen: "I play a guy name Nate who is an agent at a firm that Regina is at. I am the other black agent in the office and Nate is a bit of a star agent and he knows it. He's been around the office for quite some time and he's the boss's favorite. He and Regina kind of butt heads at the beginning....I don't want to give away too much."

Star: How does this character differ from your character in Being Mary Jane?

Stephen: "It was cool. It's fun to be able to spread your wings. The difference between David and Nate -- Nate is a superstar and he knows it. He's always had success. He made a big splash in the entertainment world and he's on the rise. David, on the other hand, is still a little bit more humble. He comes from a good family, two-parent family, college graduate. He sold his software company so he's made himself a millionaire a few times over."

Stephen adds, "Nate knows who he is and David is wounded. The woman he loves can't see eye-to-eye on a lot of the things they are going through. He doesn't know how to deal with it but she keeps pushing away and now he's finding that she's seeing other people, and not being honest about it. He's hurt by the fact that now, all of a sudden, she's not being as forthcoming as she normally would. He's walking through that first season as the man wounded."

Star: So I learned that you played in the minor league for the Atlanta Braves, correct:

Stephen: "I played in the minor leagues for the Braves and the Baltimore Orioles, yes I was a pro baseball player but I was not in the major leagues."

Star: What made you transition from baseball to acting?

Stephen: "What made me transition -- I took drama in college and my professor told me, 'Stephen you're pretty gifted at this, you might want to consider doing this for a living,' I told him I am also gifted in another thing in my life and I'll be playing professional baseball. He said, 'Well, just keep it in your back pocket. You never know what's going to happen.'"

Bishop talked about when he got released from baseball. "I was sitting in my kitchen and I just kept hearing this voice in my head. I always say it was God, trying to tell me it was time to transfer off of the baseball train and on to the train that would take me to my ultimate destination."

Find out more things about Stephen in the audio interview below like other producers and stars he'd like to work with (including Halle Berry) as well as his community service acts.
