Kerry Washington, star of ABC's Scandal has revealed that she's tried to keep series creator Shonda Rhimes from watching HBO's notoriously ruthless Game of Thrones in an act of character preservation. Washington -- who plays Olivia Pope in the political drama -- also chatted with Jimmy Kimmel about how he had pissed off Shonda, having your birthday during the Super Bowl, and delivered a couple of Scandal Season 4 spoilers for the mid-season return of the hit show.

Washington -- who is married to former NFL player Nmadhi Asomugha -- laughed about having her birthday around the Super Bowl each year, saying that feels like "I have the only birthday with a half time."

She also admitted that there have been a "couple of times" when her birthday and the super bowl have aligned perfectly, which means, says Washington, and "I feel like the whole nation is partying for me."

"You can't tell Im an only child, can you?" she laughed.

Washington - who was voted one of Time's 100 most influential people last year- also chatted about growing up and how her mother made sure she had lots of multi-cultural dolls, but how kids have it much easier now with "Mulan and Jasmine and Tiara," being the cultural diversity.

Washington also spoke about Scandal, and how Shonda Rhimes doesn't trust Jimmy Kimmel any more. "What did you do to Shonda?" Washington asked of the host. "You used to get it [Scandal] ahead of time! You must have pissed off Shonda! "

"Shonda, for some reason, doesn't trust me! I can't imagine why; i've never revealed anything!" protested Kimmel.

Washington - after saying she'll "see what I can do" for Kimmel - caught the audience up on the mid-season break of Scandal, as Washington's character Olivia Pope has disappeared, leaving nothing but a spilt glass of wine on a couch.

She did, however, let slip with a spoiler saying that Olivia hadn't just 'gone to the kitchen to get some paper towel to clean up the wine'. "That's a spoiler!" laughed the star. It appears, then, that Olivia really has disappeared under nefarious circumstances.

As for who kidnapped Olivia, she also revealed that anyone who's watched the show "kind of" knows who kidnapped her. "That's how it is in Shonda land; you can't 'kind of' be pregnant, so you just kind of know."

"After Game of Thrones, I feel like nobody's safe on any show ever," Washington laughed. She added that she's also tried to make sure Rhimes doesn't watch the HBO hit, saying "I'm like 'Why are you watching that show Shonda? Don't watch Game of Thrones, it's terrible!"

Turns out the return was pretty great, and as People point out, "this wasn't the Scandal we've grown to love. It was something new, something darker and far more sinister than Pope & Associates has ever tried to fix."

She also chatted about live tweeting during Scandal show every Thursday night: check out what she spoke about below. Scandal airs on ABC Thursdays at 9 p.m.
