Was Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll's call to throw from the 1-yard line on a second down - with 26 seconds and one timeout left - the worst play call in Super Bowl history? Former NFL players, media members and football analysts are slamming the Seahawks coach for costing his team back-to-back NFL championships, calling a passing play - which was intercepted by Patriot Malcolm Butler - instead of a running play for superstar running back Marshawn Lynch. It was, many have said, the 'dumbest' and 'worst' call many have ever seen.

According to ESPN's Ian O'Connor, "It was the worst Super Bowl play of all time," and "the mother of all screwups." Pete Carroll. says O'Connor, "got all silly and reckless at the worst possible time," and as a result, "cost his team the Super Bowl, and there was nothing even remotely fun about it."

As ESPN report, Lynch shrugged off the calls that he should've gotten a run call, saying only "This is a team game."

ESPN quote Carroll as saying "I made the decision," adding that he exonerated Wilson and Bevell. Carroll admitted "I said, 'Throw the ball,' and we went with the play that we thought would give us a chance to get in the end zone. We had great matchups for the call that we made, and it didn't work out. They made a better play than we did."

CBS News quote the coach saying: "It's not a great matchup for us to run the football, so we were going to throw the ball, really to waste a play. If we score, we do, if we don't, we'll run it in on third or fourth down."

Carroll texted NFL.com's Michael Silver after the game, saying "The logic and reasoning (of the second-and-1 pass) is why you throw a TD pass with six seconds left in the half." Carroll added to Silver: "You've trained your players to do the right thing, and I trust them to do right."

As ESPN report, intercepting hero Malcolm Butler said "I knew they were going to throw it." Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis added "You would've thought they would've run Marshawn in that situation because they had been running him all game. But that was the decision they chose to make."

Russell Wilson, meanwhile admitted that when he let the ball go " thought it was going to be game over."

USA Today's Chris Chase however, lays the blame at the QB's feet, saying "Wilson did everything wrong on that play. Had he received the shotgun, stood tall and whipped the ball to Lockette, Seattle would be planning a Super Bowl parade today."
Here's how twitter reacted:

And for something just as bizarre and nonsensical as Carroll's call, here's Donald Trump!
