'Person Of Interest' Season 4 Recap: Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson Are "M.I.A." With Shaw!

Season 4 of Person of Interest returns from its hiatus break after its epic and action-packed trilogy on CBS. With Shaw (Sarah Shahi)'s whereabouts unknown, will Finch (Michael Emerson), and Reese (Jim Caviezel) find themselves 'M.I.A.' as Samaritan continues to attack them?

While Team Machine is searching for Shaw upstate, Lt. Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman) takes a number from Finch. During his investigation, he meets with former undercover Internal Affairs officer, Dani Silva (Adria Arjona). She has been transferred to Gangs Division and it seems they are both trailing the same person.

Root (Amy Acker) and Reese arrive at a town in Maple that seems too good to be true. Root takes down one of the officers, after he puts his hands on her. After checking out the surveillance footage, the two discover the truck they've been trailing is still in the town.  

At the precinct, Dani and Fusco discover a pattern with their target. 100 pounds of lye was previously stolen from his hardware store. They may be dealing with a deadly assassin, who disguises himself as an ordinary person. 

At a fancy restaurant, Dani and Fusco pretend to dine out, trying to find out who's the target's next mark. After getting a call from Finch, Fusco stops the target from killing a waiter. The target then beats himself up, making it look like Fusco physically abused him. 

Reese and Root find the truck and open the back door. Based on the bloodstains on the wall, it appears Shaw was on top of the operating table. Root find the neurosurgeon who operated on Shaw. They discover Samaritan has been holding the town of Maple hostage. 

The waiter Fusco saved is actually an eyewitness to a previous case. Though Fusco has been sidelined, Dani thinks she can take on the hit-man by herself. Realizing Samaritan is playing with people's lives, Reese and Root step up their game and kidnap Ms. Thompson. 

At the address, Dani breaks into an abandoned house and discovers the missing lye. She ends up in an intense shoot-out with the hit-man. Fusco shows up to save Dani but their hit-man manages to escape. 

During their interrogation with Ms. Thompson, Reese discovers Samaritan has been giving people fake names. A blind woman is running things behind-the-scenes. Samaritan has been using Maple as its own ant farm, shaking things up, to study people.  

Dani returns home to find the hit-man waiting for her. Dani shoots him dead before he could kill Fusco. At the factory, Root shuts down the cameras as Reese discovers neural implants. Instead of Shaw, they find a missing girl who has been used as a lab rat. 

While Dani deals with her first kill, Root is angry that the Machine won't tell her where Shaw is. The Machine asks them to stop searching for Shaw. As Root leaves the group, Shaw is actually being taken care of by Mr. Greer.
