Thirty-five years ago on February 22, Team USA men's hockey experienced a shocking victory against the USSR during the now-legendary 1980 Winter Olympics. Coach Herb Brooks' team of amateur and collegiate players later went on to win the final match against Finland. At-the-time, the Soviet Union national team had already won gold medal in six of the seven previous Olympic games.

So the USA's unexpected victory came as a total "underdog" surprise. And even now, over 30 years later, the final minute of the game (ultimately deemed "Miracle on Ice") still remains a legendary moment in sports history:

The final minute still sends chills down several sports fans' backs, especially with the emotional celebration following the 10-second countdown.

According to Bleacher Report, surviving members of the original 1980 team reunited in Lake Placid, New York to celebrate this monumental occasion. The nostalgic "Relive the Miracle" ceremony was hosted at the Herb Brooks Arena on Saturday evening (February 21), to commemorate the huge Olympic win. The beloved Hall of Fame coach was sadly killed in a 2003 car crash. Also missing was star player Bob Suter, how died at the age of 57 in September (2014). As The Associated Press reports:

Festivities included audio, video and still pictures, as well as a discussion of the game with the players. Suter's jersey was raised to the rafters as a tribute.

"In sports in general, everyone roots for the underdog, which we certainly were an underdog," said retired hockey forward Dave Christian. "We were aware of the political situation in the world, but in a lot of respects for us it truly was a game, a great challenge" (via The AP).

#MiracleOnIce is still currently trending on Twitter, with this stand-out piece posted by Igor Larionov on The Players Tribune.
