If you've been following the news surrounding the upcoming later 2015 release, Rise of the Tomb Raider, the next chapter in the rebooted Lara Croft video game series from Crystal Dynamics, you're aware that this title is an Xbox exclusive. Though Xbox One gamers are probably pretty excited about this news, PlayStation 4 owners will miss out on the new gameplay. This is because of a partnership with Microsoft, which, according to the Crystal Dynamics, is a pretty great relationship! Find out more on why Microsoft publishing this new Tomb Raider title is a great step for the franchise.

Darrell Gallagher  is the head of Crystal Dynamics' western studios. In a new interview this week, he opened up about the business side of Rise of the Tomb Raider, detailing the relationship between the video game studio and its new publisher, Microsoft.

"They're inside the four walls, they're bringing talent that we don't have in the studio, that has hardware-specific expertise, and they're there to help," he told Game Informer in a brand new interview this week. "For us it felt like we had this tremendous bench depth that came on-board to come and help us realize what we wanted to realize for Rise of the Tomb Raider as our next game. It's been a great partnership so far."

IGN points out that Square Enix still owns the rights to the Tomb Raider IP, which could mean a PlayStation release for Rise of the Tomb Raider after its initial release later this year. Unfortunately, Gallagher does not comment on this possibility.

He continued, "Tomb Raider has been around for 20 years. What we look at is how we bring the best version of Tomb Raider to market. And there's no doubt that having a first party in Xbox alongside [us], saying, 'We want to help you make this great, we want to push this, and get behind it, and love it the same way as you guys do,' there's only benefits that can come from that."
