Ryan Philippe opened up about the source of his 2008 breakup with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon during a recent appearance on Larry King Now. "I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young," the Secrets & Lies star revealed. "I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there's so much noise that goes along with it."

Phillipe and Witherspoon met on Witherspoon's 21st birthday. The two were married for eight years before getting a divorce in 2008. They announced their separation in 2006, amid rumors that Philippe was cheating with Australian actress Abbie Cornish.

The two are "very much" still friends though as they co-parent children Ava, 15, and Deacon, 11.

Phillippe is close to both of his children, and said that he isn't worried at all about his daughter getting older and starting to be interested in boys.

"I grew up in a very, very female household so I have a real sensitivity with that connection with [Ava] because of that," he said. "I don't think she'll suffer fools. She's going to have high standards," he said.

The actor also revealed that the fact that people still label him as a Hollywood bad boy is very puzzling to him.

"I'm a pretty regular dude," he said. "I'm also a pretty dedicated dad and have multiple companies, so there's not a lot of time for me to be a Hollywood bad boy."

In fact, Phillippe has been dating civil rights lawyer, Paulina Slagter for four years now. Reese Witherspoon married CAA agent Jim Toth in March 2011 and had son, Tennessee, the following year. The two are planning to open a boutique hotel in Nashville.

Phillippe is currently promoting his new ABC drama, Secrets and Lies, which airs on Sundays at 9 p.m.
