Get ready for this, Empire fans... John Slattery, aka Roger Sterling on Mad Men, was almost a cast member of Fox's breakout TV show, Empire. But he turned it down!

The actor was interviewed about the final season of Mad Men in The Daily Beast when he made the startling revelation.

When chatting about one-time co-star and writer Danny Strong (who played Danny Siegel on Mad Men, and has since gone on to write scripts for The Butler, two Hunger Games films, as well as Empire), Slattery complimented the actor on his success-and asked him for a job!

"That's Danny Strong who punches me in the balls!" he said while reminiscing about a particularly memorable scene the two shared.  "That guy is on top of the world right now with Empire. If he reads this, 'Danny, I need a job!' He actually asked me if I wanted to be on Empire, and I think I let that ship sail. I don't know who I would've played... some white dude."

Of course, the celebrated actor won't have any problems getting work after Mad Men is over. He's already scheduled to appear in Wet Hot American Summer with John Haam. But the thought of him interacting with Cookie and Luscious is still a fun one!

Empire recently became a smash, record-breaking hit, becoming the first primetime scripted series in more than 23 years to grow in total viewers over each of its first telecasts. The audience grew so much that the season finale generated 2.3 million tweets, making it the most-tweeted about telecast since Nielsen started measuring them.

Empire star Taraji P. Henson is slated to host SNL for the first time on April 11th.  She'll be joined by musical guest Mumford & Sons, whose third album Wilder Mind drops May 4th
