Season 3 of The Americans had the most shocking and heart-breaking episode on FX. In Episode 10, will spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) Jennings end up taking a "darker and more dangerous path" after the elderly Betty Turner (Lois Smith)'s death?

In our previous recap, after completing Gabriel (Frank Langella)'s orders, Elizabeth asked her handler for a favor, to bring back Philip's son, a solider, from the war. In order to get a lighter sentence, Nina (Annet Mahendru) has to gain the trust of scientist Anton Baklanov. When Martha (Alison Wright) confronted her husband about the interrogations going on at the FBI's office, Philip told her the truth; he's in love with her. The two were uncomfortable sitting in the same bed together.

In our recent recap, Philip and Elizabeth broke into the storage room, attempting to put a bug in the mail robot. Unfortunately, Betty was at the wrong place, at the wrong time to be working late. During the night, Betty talked about her marriage and children, even showed their pictures, as Elizabeth forced the elderly woman to overdose on her pills. Betty asked, "Will my death make the world a better place?" After Elizabeth said yes, Betty responded with her last words, "That's what evil people say..." before dying.

Not only did Philip snap at Gabriel during their game of Scrabble, Oleg (Costa Ronin) and Stan (Noah Emmerich) started working together to save Nina by outing the defector Zinadia as a spy.

Check out what Twitter had to say about Betty Turner's death here:

In an interview with Assignment X, Emmerich reveals Stan may be willing to cross the line to save Nina, "I don't think Stan ever really wavered on whether or not he would betray his country for Nina's sake. I think that tore his heart up a good bit and gave him great sadness and remorse, but I don't think it was ever really in question that he would betray the integrity and the security of the United States for his selfish purposes."

The Truman Show actor continues, "So I think he was proud of his integrity being intact and cut up and devastated by the cost of that in that particular circumstance, and for having involved Nina, who he saw, I think, to a large degree as an innocent bystander in the Cold War, a woman who was just trying to give her family some economic advantage by sending back stereo equipment, sending back money, and ended up being snared in a darker, deeper, more dangerous game."
