De La Soul's 'And the Anonymous Nobody': Kickstarter Crowd Funds New Album Featuring 2 Chains, David Byrne

De La Soul, the forefathers of modern hip-hop, are getting ready to record their eight album, And the Anonymous Nobody, in Atlanta, and they'll be needing your help. The innovators of the rap game are now innovating how albums are being recorded, as this new album will be completely crowd funded. Fans can pay tribute to the legends by donating to De La Soul's Kickstarter campaign. Those who donate will help move forward a project that includes David Byrne, 2 Chainz and Little Dragon. Little Dragon will be on the songs "Snoopies," "Whodini" and "Drawn." More artists will be on the way.

On their Kickstarter page, De La Soul said they started their campaign to continue being free from record labels that get in the way of the creative process.

"For the last decade, we've been independent artists, free of a record label interfering in our creative process. This will be our first De La Soul studio album in 11 years," the group said on Kickstarter. "Typically the fans have been the ones who support and appreciate our vision, so using Kickstarter and giving our fans the opportunity to be a part of the process just feels right."

Since its inception, the campaign has seen monumental success. De La Soul found more than 2,761 backers and raised more than $177,000. That's well more than their original plan of $110,000, and the number continues to rise.

Those who donate to the campaign get some great rewards. Fans pledging more $15 will receive the digital album plus some kickstarter-only bonus tracks. If they pledge $10 more, then they'll be sent the same content except it will be a physical copy of the album.

A $30 or more pledge will get you a special edition Kickstarter 1GB thumbdrive with the album preloaded on it.

The ultimate donation is $10,000. This gets you David Jude Jolicoeur's 3 Feet High and Rising platinum plaque. You'll also receive a customized De La Soul show laminate/photo ID that grants you and a guest VIP Access into 10 De La Soul shows of your choosing.
