According to reports, former NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested the night before he was set to wed fiancée Hope Solo - he apparently drunkenly assaulted the U.S. Olympic soccer star at a wild party on the eve of their wedding day. Instead of finding themselves happily standing at the wedding alter on Tuesday (Nov. 12), the couple found themselves at a municipal court in Washington, where Stevens fought a fourth-degree domestic assault charge after being arrested for physically assaulting Solo early Monday morning.
Allegedly, Stevens was involved in a drunken, eight-person brawl at a crazy wedding pre-party at Solo's home in Kirkland, WA. Police were called to the scene by Solo's brother - the battered-up 34-year-old told law enforcement that two or three unknown men had started a fight and that he had used a stun gun on one of them (the unwanted party guests ran before the police arrived). Several other intoxicated guests wouldn't cooperate with the police. Hope Solo, drunk and bleeding, kept yelling at her brother "Don't tell [the police] anything." When officers got into the home, they found scattered blood drops and another woman lying on the kitchen floor with a hip injury. An intoxicated Stevens was eventually found hiding behind a bed in an upstairs bedroom, with dried blood splattered on his cheek and shirt. He told police he "had been sleeping." One officer found "shreds of a pillow" scattered throughout the room.
Stevens eventually admitted that he and 31-year-old Hope had just gotten into a drunken argument about whether the couple would live in Florida or in Washington State following their nuptials on Tuesday. While Solo wouldn't cooperate with police and provide a written statement, 33-year-old Stevens was arrested and charged with suspicion of domestic assault for his admitted verbal argument with Solo.
Stevens was not charged in the case on Tuesday, because a court Judge Michael Lambo determined that there wasn't enough evidence to prove the altercation. The former Settle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football star left the NFL in 2010 after having many run-ins with the law (including a possession of marijuana charge in October 2010 and several other assault and intoxication charges).
Hope Solo was present in the courtroom Tuesday, but said nothing to reporters. Her attorney Peter Offenbecher stated that she had not been assaulted at the party. Attorneys for Solo and Stevens did not comment on their personal relationship or future marriage plans.
Stevens and Solo applied for a marriage license earlier this November after just two months of dating.
