With Season 2 of the critically acclaimed American Crime in question, ABC is already speaking with creator John Ridley to "reinvent" a Marvel superhero for television. With the rumored Deathlok and Inhumans up for grabs, which Marvel TV show will take place after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter?

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar-winning screenwriter/producer of 12 Years a Slave is working with Marvel to develop a mysterious new TV series. The deal involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC. Unfortunately, the superhero title that Ridley is officially adapting is being kept under wraps.

Indiewire reports that the racially-charged drama is a solid contender for limited series for the Emmys. Though the performances from the ensemble cast, which includes Timothy Hutton and Caitlin Gerard, are top-notch, the show hasn't become a breakout hit and suffered a steady decline in ratings.

The Red Tails writer tells the site about ABC's commitment to the series, "To their credit, early on, they said they really wanted to create an environment where storytellers would feel empowered to tell the kinds of stories we wanted to tell, and the way that we wanted to tell them."

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that ABC will be sticking with American Crime despite its low ratings. Network brass, including ABC Entertainment President Paul Leeare, are very interested in still doing business with Ridley.

Even though a superhero hasn't been named, we can jump in on the bandwagon and speculate who it could be. Screencrush is placing bets on Secret Warriors to Avengers Academy, Inhumans, and Deathlok, who recent repaired in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s second season. No stranger to comics, Ridley penned episodes of the animated Justice League and Static Shock series.

As we previously mentioned, with May coming up, we will finally know if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will receive a third season and if Agent Carter will be granted a second season.

The first season finale of American Crime airs May 14.

Readers, which superhero would you like John Ridley to adapt?
