If there's one person who should NOT be asked about the "sad" news of Zayn Malik leaving One Direction, it's probably Stephen Hawking. Regardless, someone had the gall to ask one of the most brilliant minds in the world his thoughts on Malik's departure from the band and their potential break up. And unsurprisingly, Hawking's answer is pretty marvelous.

The question came when Hawking was speaking about the mysteries of the universe at the Sydney Opera House, according to BuzzFeed. Though speaking at the Opera House, the famed Theory of Everything inspiration was actually at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. He appeared in Sydney as a hologram.

Yes, seriously...

Just before the question, Hawking was discussing the importance of space exploration and the fact that humans are "mere collections of fundamental particles of nature." With that, he notes that we have come so close to understanding the laws of the universe, and we cannot stop now.

Then came the question:

"What do you think the cosmological effect of Zayn leaving One Direction and consequently breaking the hearts of millions teenage girls across the world?"

And Hawking's was nothing short of genius:

"Finally, a question about something important," he joked. "My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics. Because one day there may well be proof of multiple universes. It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another different universe...

"And in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."

Check out a video of the answer here:

Nicely done, Professor Hawking. You are undoubtedly, as the kids say, a baller...
