Zayn Malik might have just left the One Direction world, but is the boy band already looking to find his replacement? According to new rumors, the X Factor founded band is heading back to the reality series realm, as they try to find a replacement singer to fill the void in their group left by Malik. With these new claims, it seems like Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan are going to have to get ready to once again share the spotlight with a fifth member.

According to Radar Online, the guy group, which was created on the singing competition in 2010 by Simon Cowell, is going to be headed back to its roots.

"Simon Cowell is really pushing to do a 'search for the fifth member' sort of reality show singing competition," the insider explained to the news site. "One Direction was founded on the same concept on The X Factor, so Simon and the management team think that it is kind of a spectacular idea and they know that the ratings would be enormous."

So why the interest in searching for a new member? Why not just let the band be a foursome? Well, it seems the management team is afraid that four guys in the band will not be as successful.

"All great boy bands throughout the modern music era, such as The Jackson Five, 'N Sync, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, The Wanted, etc. all did so well because there were five members," the insider explained. "Quartets never stay afloat in the boy band world."

But while the idea sounds like a goldmine, according to Gossip Cop it doesn't seem like it was be happening. A representative told the site, "This story is completely made up," adding, "It's totally untrue."
