Lion Forge Comics and IDW Publishing bring back the '80s classic, Miami Vice, as an entertaining comic book series. In writer Joe Casey and artist Jim Mahfood's Miami Vice Remix #3, Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs (memorably played by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas) find themselves in a gritty and action-packed issue.

Based on the Miami Vice series, the pilot followed New York Detective Rico Tubbs (Thomas) seeking vengeance for his brother's murder at the hands of mob boss Calderone. While undercover on assignment, Crockett (Johnson) ended up butting heads with Tubbs as they sought after the same man. An unlikely partnership came about as Tubbs decided to stick with Crockett around in the state of Florida.

As we previously mentioned, the first installment followed the rogue detectives through modern-day Miami. Crockett and Tubbs had to break the law to keep up with their criminal aliases as a new drug has taken hold over the crime-ridden streets. Lt. Martin Castillo (Edward James Olmos) found himself caught in the crossfire as his daughter us suddenly taken hostage.

In the third installment, Crockett finds himself drenched in his own blood, tied up, and staring at the barrel of a gun. Luckily, Crockett's pet alligator, Elvis, saves the day and takes a big bite out of his attacker. With Castillo missing in action, Tubbs has to turn to unorthodox methods and sample the drug himself.

Casey keeps the storyline moving at a fast pace, keeping both protagonists separate and busy. The narrative takes a wild turn as Tubbs ends up injected with the drug. Lost in the haze, Tubbs appears to be losing his mind, never realizing his partner needs him as back-up.

Mahfood's illustrations are incredibly vibrant and expressive, especially when characters are yelling at the top of his lungs. Throughout the entire issue, Crockett is a complete mess, with his clothes splattered in blood and his face covered in bruises.

Readers will definitely enjoy this surreal and hyper-kinetic crime/cop drama.
