As the final episode of The Daily Show approaches this coming Aug. 6, host Jon Stewart has unveiled that he's been running a program that aims at getting veterans who have returned home jobs in television. Stewart has been running the program for the past three years but has only now come out publicly about it. His program puts vets through a five-week boot camp and teaches them the behind-the-scenes features of the television industry. It's something many vets have gone through, including Army scout Nathan Witmer.

The vet left Iraq back in 2008, and found himself selling medical equipment for a couple of years – until he heard about a boot camp that helped vets get into television. The program, he soon discovered, was run by the one and only Jon Stewart, according to The New York Times.

Through that, Witmer found a job at Fox News and then became an Associate Field Segment Producer at, you guessed it, The Daily Show.

"It was actually inspirational," Witmer says, speaking of the camp. "We hear 'Thank you for your service' all the time, but here was concrete action, people working to really make a difference. And it changed lives. I'm proof of that."

Stewart recently spoke about the group now that his job as host is nearing its end. He noted that the program is "ready to franchise."

The idea, of course, is that not everyone returning from their service wants to necessarily work in the government sector. Perhaps their dreams are set in fields that are a little different. Just like Nathan Witmer, who wanted to direct, write and produce films. And while some might be shocked given Stewart's opinion on the Iraq war, it's pretty obvious that while he didn't support the war, he does support the troops.
