'The X-Files' Revival: Joel McHale Cast As David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson's SPOILERS In 2016!

Back by popular demand, the iconic sci-fi/horror series will premiere on Fox in 2016. Will paranormal investigators Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) face an enemy or believer when actor Joel McHale arrives in the highly anticipated revival of The X-Files?

As we previously mentioned, 13 years have passed since FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were on the TV screen solving weird and supernatural cases. The reboot of Fox's popular sci-fi series continues with 6 brand new episodes. Not only are the leads set to reprise their iconic roles, creator Chris Carter will takeover as showrunner for the franchise that launched his and many other careers.

According to Deadline, the Community actor signed for a guest starring stint. McHale will play Tad O'Malley, the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network. During the course of the episode, O'Malley suddenly becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.

E!'s The Soup host just wrapped his sixth season of Community on Yahoo. Sources tell Deadline that the Ted actor was interested in doing a drama stint, which led to his guest-starring gig. McHale will also be the host of the 2015 ESPYS this July.

As we previously mentioned, William B. Davis revealed Cigarette-Smoking Man will "definitely in the first episode," and may also reprise his role in "some of the episodes" of the limited run. The Cigarette-Smoking Man will return but he's not quite sure how. The last time we saw the antagonist, he was blown up by his own undoing.

Production of The X-Files 6 episode run is has already begun. The episodes are scheduled to run during January 2016's midseason.
