Hate the Gym? Try Jennifer Pattee Basic Training Workout: Get Fit with Outdoor Exercises

Let's face it: going to the gym can oftentimes be a bummer. Whether it be because you don't like lifting weights, you don't like running, or maybe you just don't like the people wherever you go – there are a number of reasons many of us just hate the gym. Which is exactly why fitness guru Jennifer Pattee created the Basic Training workout, a San Francisco-based company that encompasses outdoor routines used to motivate you to rid yourself of the sedentary lifestyle you may or may not be experiencing.

Per a report from The Huffington Post, Pattee created Basic Training back in 2008, while she was working as a graphic designer at both Apple and IDEO. Growing tired of sitting all day long, she decided to kick off an Indiegogo campaign, which amassed $55,000. With that, and some corporate funding, Pattee started Basic Training and never looked back.

"Kids run, climb, jump rope," she tells HuffPost, "but they don't call it working out – they call it play." To that, Pattee tries to make Basic Training as "play" as possible, with her workouts taking place on the streets of San Francisco. Those taking the classes work out in a variety of ways, like doing tricep dips on park tables and pull-ups on low-hanging streetlights.

She claims that exercise really doesn't have to fit the idiom of "no pain, no gain." She wants it to be fun in order to get people both "inspired" and "out there" to get fit.
