The store Barnes shoplifted from, Swell-O-Phonic made a public statement after the arrest.

"The so-called internet star - Courtney Barnes aka "piece of hamburger" has just been arrested. Say what you want, but it does not change the fact that no matter who you are, what color you are, how you are - if you steal from Swell-o-phonic or any other independent community-minded company, you will get busted," the statement said. "This is not a case of race, sex or anything that distracts from the actual point. Sucker-punch comments on social media don't change the fact that wrong is indeed wrong. It's sad that we live in a society that always wants to objectify the side that refuses to act civil by turning perpetrators into victims. We wish Courtney the best as he hopefully gets the help he needs to change his ways. That's all folks."
