Both Marvel Studios and Warner Bros. have established an expanded cinematic structure involving numerous superheroes and villains from different comic books coming together in a number of star-studded movies, and it looks like Fox could do the same. Considering the studio owns two popular comic franchises, Fantastic Four and X-Men, it seems like an obvious idea to bring the two together. That's exactly what a new rumor is saying, which even includes a 2018 release date on the bold film project. Read more on this speculation below.

In 2015, we'll see director Josh Trank's highly anticipated Fantastic Four reboot, followed by Bryan Singer's revamped X-Men cast in Apocalypse set for release in 2016. According to a new rumor from superhero movie news breakers Latino Review, the success of these films could mean a crossover movie event in a few years.

The report does share the new crossover rumor, but is fair to point out that many factors have to come together in order for it to happen. Apparently, if the 2015 reboot and the 2016 sequel do well, Fantastic Four 2 will hit theaters in 2017, which could be followed quickly by a crossover film. Honestly, it isn't a bad idea, but it depends on a ton of movie business elements that might not come together (via Slash Film).

Gamma Squad also points out that 2018 is full of other superhero movies, which might mess with this proposed release.

Though this is only a rumor right now, it is definitely plausible. If Fox wants to take notes from the other studios, this isn't a bad strategy.
