It doesn't look like the Force is with director Josh Trank anymore as he has officially announced his departure from the second Star Wars Anthology spin off films. Before today's "May the Fourth be with You" celebration kicked off, the Fantastic Four reboot and Chronicle filmmaker was dropped from the highly anticipated project, which would follow Gareth Edwards' 2016 movie Star Wars: Rogue One in this new standalone series from Disney and Lucasfilm. Was the acclaimed screenwriter and director fired from his job or was there something else going on behind-the-scenes? Was he let go due to recent rumors of his work ethics on the Marvel Comic Book film adaptation? Find out what we know below!

Earlier this year, we heard that the highly anticipated Fantastic Four reboot might've seen some backtracking due to rumors surrounding Trank. According to unconfirmed rumors, the director was a headache of a collaborator and would cause filming delays and other problems. While we know now that this project is well on its way to a release this summer, we can't help but consider these rumors when thinking about this week's news (via UPROXX).

We're not sure why the director left this coveted position, but it seems like he's pretty okay with this from the sounds of his officially statement regarding his departure.

"After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I'm making a personal decision to move forward on a different path," Trank said in an official statement posted to StarWars.com (via Gamma Squad). "I've put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn't be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. May the Force be with you all."
